APHL supports CaliciNet activities through training, technical meetings, research grants and information dissemination.
Public health laboratories participate in the reporting and surveillance network called CaliciNet to rapidly resolve norovirus outbreaks. In 2009, CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, Division of Viral Diseases, launched
CaliciNet, a national laboratory-based surveillance network for
norovirus. This network utilizes molecular methods and sequencing technology to track
outbreaks of noroviruses for strain typing and characterization of circulating norovirus subtypes.
APHL Activities
Laboratorians from federal, state and local public health laboratories participate in CaliciNet. APHL assists with training workshops for local and state public health laboratorians, coordinates CaliciNet user group meetings, and facilitates networking efforts among member laboratories participating in CaliciNet
Outbreak Support Centers and Unexplained Viral Diarrheal Sites.
