The Newborn Screening Issues and Answers Workshop: Laboratory Health Information Exchange took place in Bethesda, MD on November 1-2, 2010. Participants included laboratorians, vendors and government professionals from organizations such as NLM and HRSA. The meeting emphasized the importance of standardization in electronic data transfer in health care settings, which is critical for pooling data for newborn screening research and follow-up. Topics included HL7 Reporting, Successes from State Laboratories, Examining Card Variables and Future Work Adding Codes and Standards.
